In studying chemistry, students discover chemistry’s tremendous power to explain the nature of matter and its transformations. The topics covered include atomic and molecular structure, the periodic table, chemical bonds, stoichiometry, gases, acids and bases, solutions, thermodynamics, reaction rates, chemical equilibrium, organic and biochemistry and nuclear processes. Chemistry requires high-level problem-solving skills, such as designing experiments and solving word problems. An essential prerequisite for chemistry is a strong background in algebra.
