speech - Overview

Course Description as appears in Student Curriculum Handbook:

Students will concentrate on the vital elements of written and oral language through various types of speeches and debates. Emphasis throughout the semester is on developing vocabulary and confidence with oral speaking techniques. Students will become familiar with the different types of speeches: persuasive, impromptu, commemorative, informative, and personal. Students will gain skill as they research, plan, organize, and present these speeches; listen, analyze, evaluate, and appreciate peer speeches; and cope with personal and situational tensions of public speaking.
