Course Description
The Learning Strategies course is designed as a supplemental course for those students who, upon entrance to St. Bonaventure High School, lack the study skills and practical application of those skills to high school level assignments. Research has shown that students who are only marginally successful use trial and error methods of learning and strategies that lack a proper study skills foundation. Emphasis throughout the semester is on learning strategies that teach note-taking, memory, test taking, logic, concentration, reading comprehension and listening. Students will learn academic self motivation. Turning in homework assignments for all their classes will be emphasized.
Instructional Goals
In accordance with St. Bonaventure High School’s Expected Schoolwide Learning Results, this course is designed to instruct and encourage each student as:
- A Life-Long Learner who enjoys learning and has the academic skills to pursue learning at advanced academic levels. As a life-long learner, the student will be able to use logic and critical thinking to solve life situations.
- A Socially Responsible Person who recognizes the importance of completing tasks and has the ability to work cooperatively in small groups.
- A Maturing Individual who expresses academic self-confidence and displays self control in the classroom.
- An Active Christian who uses the mental gifting God has given them for the benefit of society.
