Welcome to Mr. Huntley's web page!
This class will
focus on how the Christian Scriptures and Catholic
social teaching call us to live our Baptismal call to
stand up for justice, and will foster the ability and
desire to respond to this call in our daily lives.
By way of many different activities and projects we
will look at a number of important social issues in
our country and in our world.
The primary objectives
will be:
- to help students develop their personal relationship with God and immerse them in God’s vision of justice,
- to foster students’ sense of compassion for those who suffer from injustice,
- to
enable students to critically examine society and social issues according to the criteria of justice, and
- to inspire students to act for justice.
Upon completion of this course, it is my hope that you
will begin to understand the perspective of this
class:
FIRST: “The least of the work of learning is done in the classroom.”
—Thomas Merton
SECOND (and most important): "Be the change you wish to see in the world." —Mohandas Gandhi
FINALLY: "Your life is important not just for you, but just as important for the difference you can make in the lives of others. Each day make a conscious decision to stand up for what is right, true and just." —Mr. Huntley
