DECEMBER 1

Shelby Babcock ('08) has earned the spot as the 6th man as a true freshman for the Kansas Wesleyan University basketball team. The Coyotes are currently ranked # 21 in the NAIA polls.  Shelby is averaging 5.4 points per game and 1.7 points per game to rank 5th on team in both categories.  She is hitting on 24% of her 3 point shots.  She lit up Haskins Indian Nations for a career high 23 points hitting on 5 from 7 from the 3 point stripe and making good on 8 of her 9 free throws in her first start of the season. Babcock graduated from St. Bonaventure as the all-time leader in scoring.

Fellow Class of '08 alum and Kansas Wesleyan student Rachelle Medina ('08) concluded her rookie soccer season by leading the Coyotes to a berth into the NAIA National Championships where they lost in the first round to the 17th ranked McKendree University team 0-1.  Medina started about half the games on the back line and recored 3 assists on the season including 2 @ Bethany College.

Cory Finnerty('04) playing for the Naval Academy had the national spotlight shine on him for a moment as he ran the ball 22 yards for a touchdown to even the score against Notre Dame in a game the Midshipmen eventually lossed by 7. The game was played before a National Television audience and a sellout crowd of over 70,000 in Baltimore.  Finnerty is the back-up slot back for Navy and has averaged 8.9 yards a carry.

Delaney Cantrell('05) earned a spot on the NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division III Womens All New England Region team following an outstanding senior season at Springfield College.  Delany playing backer, scored 4 goals on the season to go along with 5 assists. She was the 3rd leading scorer for the Pride who won the conference title for the 3rd time in Delany's college career. Cantrell scored the game winning goal in overtime verses Wheaton College in the game that gave the Pride the league crown. She scored her 4 goals on only 5 shots on goal and 13 shots total for an amazing 31% shooting percentage.

 

 

NOVEMBER 1

Bryant Hernandez ('06) picked up 6 hits in 9 at bats (.667 avg) over the last 3 games of the Red-White Series at the University of Oklahoma to lead the Red team to a 4 games to 1 series win.  Hernandez is a junior shortstop who will start for the Sooners after helping lead them into the regionals last season.  Bryant was a big run producer for the Red as he scored 6 runs and drove in 4 over the last 3 games.

Not to be out done, Hernandez' succesor at SBHS, Casey Serna ('08) hit a monster home run in the first inning of the University of Oregon's scrimmage game. Freshman Serna is battling for the starting shortstop position and will also see time on the mound for the Ducks,

 

OCTOBER 1

Terrail Lambert ('04) has made 25 tackles as the starting Cornerback for the University of Notre Dame.  Lambert is a 3 year starter for the Irish who was a 3 time all-State performer for the Seraphs. He has also broken up 3 passes this year.

Jenessa Rose ('08) finished 3rd overall in her first collegiate Cross Country race running for the University of San Diego Toreros helping them to a 2nd place finish in meet verses UNLV and PLNU.  She also recorded the 3rd best time for the Toreros in teh Lehigh Paul Short 6k Invitational in Pennsylvania to help lead USD to a 3rd place team finish.

Adam Liranzo ('06) leads the Nevada Wolf Pack with 3 sacks from his linebacker position and has recorded 12 tackles.

Michael Williams ('07) has recorded 10 tackles for the University of Michigan Wolverines including 2 tackles for loss and a sack.

Jeremy Licea ('06) continues to show a strong leg for Alabama A & M connecting on 9 field goals including a long of 43 yards.

Dwight Roberson ('06) ranks third in tackles for the Oregon State Beavers with 26 recorded.  He also has recorded 2 tackles for a loss and forced 2 fumbles.

Matt Lee ('05) has a 5.2 yards per carry average for the University of South Dakota.  He is the second leading rusher on the team with 207 yards total and he leads the team the team in Kick-off returning with a 18.2 average.

Carlton Gillespie ('05) continues to impress as a starting D Lineman for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  He is second on the team in tackles for loss and has recorded 2.5 sacks for the Mustangs who are currently ranked # 7 in the NCAA polls

Kalani Bertsch ('08) has started all 13 games for North Dakota State in goal and has recorded a 1.71 goals against average.

 

SEPTEMBER 1

Kalani Bertsch (‘08) has made an immediate impact at North Dakota State.  The true freshman has been pressed into service by injuries as is now the starting goal tender for the NCAA Division 1 program. She has appeared in 4 games so far and has recorded an impressive 1.50 goals against average.  She has picked up 2 wins on the season including a 2-0 shutout victory over Murray State.  Kalani also recorded a 90 minute shutout vs Augustana in a preseason exhibition game.  In the 0-2 loss to Creighton, Kalani registered a season high nine saves that was just off the school record of 13 saves in a game. It is not often that a true freshman can make an immediate impact at the collegiate level let alone at the D1 level, but Kalani is well on her way to a sparkling rookie season.

Rachelle Medina (‘08) another true freshman, Rachelle has broken into the starting line-up at Kansas Wesleyan University.  In the season opener, Rachelle recorded 2 shots on goal from her Mid-Fielder Position in the Coyotes 4-2 win over Concordia of Nebraska.  Kansas Wesleyan opened the season as the #24 ranked NAIA team in the nation.  Basketball alum Shelby Babcock will play for the Coyotes this year also. 

Carlton Gillespie(‘05) recorded 4 solo tackles, including 2 for losses in leading CalPoly SLO to a 29-27 upset win over Division I San Diego State.  Gillespie also had a fumble recovery in the game Gillespie is a former 3 year varsity football player at SB recording 19(!) sacks as a senior. He was the Lineman of the Year for Ventura County and helped lead the Seraphs to 2 CIF titles in his career. His sister Desiree is a Sophomore basketball player here at St. Bonaventure.

Darrell Scott (‘08)- Led Colorado with 54 yards rushing in the season opening win over Colorado St. scoring his 1st career touchdown along the way.

Lorenzo Booker (‘02) -  Scored a touchdown for the Philadelphia Eagles in their final preseason game against the New York Jets. Zo will open season this week as # 2 back and start on the kick return team.

Angel Morales (’07) contributed to the SLO cause with a solo tackle of his own. 

Blaine Irby (’07) caught a team high 7 passes for the University of Texas to help lead the Longhorns to a 52-10 win over Florida Atlantic.  Irby caught a touchdown pass from Heisman hopeful Colt McCoy. 

Dwight Roberson (‘06) The Sophomore Linebacker had 3 tackles including 1 for a loss for Oregon State in the opening season loss to Stanford.

Jeremy Licea (‘06) Hit career long 43 yard field goal in opener for Alabama A & M. He also connected on 24 yarder
