1968 CIF Championship Team Honored at Game

On September 5th, St. Bonaventure Football took a stroll down memory lane for their season opener welcoming back the 1968 CIF-SS Class “A” Champions for a 40 year reunion celebration.  That team brought home the first CIF title of any kind to St. Bonaventure in only the 3rd year of varsity competition for the school.  33 players and coaches returned from that 29 man playing roster to relive the highlights of 40 years ago some from as far away as the East Coast.  The coaching staff of Dave Currey, Bill Little and Tom Luna were all in attendance. The “team” started the day with a “team meal” (same as this year’s varsity team) at the school provided by the team moms.  For some, this was the first time back on campus since they graduated!  They then attended the Seraphs season opener against Santa Margarita and were brought down to the field just before halftime.  At halftime, the team walked out to the 50 yard line where each member was introduced to the crowd and some highlights given.  The team received a warm reception from the crowd and thunderous applause.  This is the team that set the foundation for St. Bonaventure Football and where the term “Pride, Poise, Perfection” was coined.
