COMMUNITY

St. Bonaventure High School was founded on the spiritual ide- als of St. Francis of Assisi and the academic fervor of its namesake, St. Bonaventure. We strive to instill the values em- phasized by St. Francis in an academic setting that prepares and motivates young people committed to the Christian way of life. St. Bonaventure High School is owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school is comprehensive in its approach, with an emphasis on a college preparatory curriculum. We serve a large geograph- ical area that includes the communities of all Ventura County. Currently the school population is 42% White, 35% Hispanic, 16% Multi-Racial, 3% Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% African American, and 1% Native American .

CURRICULUM

St. Bonaventure High School provides a challenging, compre- hensive and complete learning environment for each student. Classes meet four times a week according to a modified block schedule. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, students attend six 50 minutes periods. Wednesday and Thursday students attend three 95 minutes periods. Religion classes are required for every student each semester all four years. The graduation re- quirements are aligned with the California State University and University of California systems. This approach fulfills the school’s philosophy and mission, strengthens its Catholic identity, and supports student achievement of Expected School -wide Learning Results.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT RESULTS

IIn May 2011, students took AP examinations in Art, Calculus, English Language, English Literature, Spanish Language, U.S. Government and U.S. History. 75% received scores of 3+ (National avg. = 60.2%, CA avg. = 63.6%) - reflecting a 17% increase over the past four years.

All 240 units are computed in a student’s GPA. St. Bonaventure High uses a 4-point scale (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). Advanced Placement Classes are based on a 5 point scale.
